The hottest cars of 2011

Chevrolet Corvette

When: April 2011
How Much: Rs 50 lakh approx

The 2011 Chevrolet Corvette that will be introduced in India will be based on the upgraded model from 2008, where improvements were made to the exterior styling, interior design and engine specifications.

The 2011 Chevrolet Corvette is one of the fastest sports cars around and packs a mammoth 6.2 liter, V8 engine under its hood. The V8 powertrain uses some of the most advanced technologies in an engine that allows it to produce a maximum power of 430 horsepower and impressive 424 Nm torque. The Chevrolet Corvette is mated to a 6-speed manual and also comes with the option of a 6-speed automatic gearbox that does all the work of the driver and in my opinion is the less fun version to drive. There is a dual exhaust system available with the Chevrolet Corvette that gives it an increased power of 436 horsepower as well as improved torque of 428 Nm.

It has the calibre to generate the utmost power & torque of 142.7 PS at 6000rpm & 185Nm at 4500rpm respectively.

The hatchback comes with standard six speed manual transmission while you can opt for an automatic 6 speed gearbox as well. The stylish four wheeler covers 0-100 kmph in 8.1 seconds, you can speed it up to 220 kmph.

Chevrolet Orlando

When: June 2011
How Much: Rs 10 lakh approx

General Motors introduced the Orlando, a concept MPV, at the Paris Motor Show, 2008; the production version of the MPV was showcased at the 2010 Paris Auto Show and reports say that it will commence sales in early 2011. The concept version was a seven seater affair and possessed a crossover like build. The Orlando shares the same platform of Chevrolet Cruze.

If media reports are to be believed, the Chevrolet Orlando is supposed to replace Chevrolet Tavera. After discontinuing the Tavera in most of the BS III cities, there remains a void from Chevrolet side. The Orlando will be competing with the likes of Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo and other India bound mini MPV like Maruti R3, Nissan NV200, Hyundai ic25 and Ford B-Max. This yet-to-be launched Chevrolet MPV would be loaded with a 1.8 litre petrol mill and a 2.0 litre diesel powertrain. The 1.8 litre petrol engine is expected to produce a top power of 141 bhp while the 2.0 litre diesel engine would churn out maximum power of 131 bhp via either a 4 speed automatic, 5 speed or 6 speed automatic gearboxes.

The engine that will make most sense for India will is a 2-litre TDCi engine that breathes through four valves per cylinder and produces a healthy 136PS and 320Nm of turning force. This 4-pot turbo engine sees the Kuga reach 100 clicks in less than 11 seconds while the top whack should be a shade less than 200kmph. The all-wheel drive system will ensure that it is capable enough to handle the rough with aplomb, like the Endeavour. The Kuga could undercut the 20 lakh mark by a fair margin.

It was for her astounding role in the film Monster’s Ball in 2002, when she was awarded the Best Actress Academy Award and is still now the only woman of African America descent to win the Academy Award for Best Actress. It was in the late 1980s, when she went to Chicago to pursue a modeling career as well as acting and acted in a television series for the local cable by Gordon Lake Productions called Chicago Force.

In 1992, Berry was cast as the love interest in the video for R. Kelly's seminal hit, "Honey Love". Berry auditioned for a role in an updated Charlie’s Angels television series by producer Aaron Spelling. She became successful in impressing Spelling and he encouraged her to continue acting. 171 In the 1999 film Introducing Dorothy Dandbrige, she was portrayed as the first black woman to be nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award. In this HBO biopic, Berry's performance was recognized with several awards including an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

Berry is at present busy in making the transition to working on the production side of film and television. She is working with the noted author Angela Nissel to executive produce a comedy series based on Nissel's two memoirs, The Broke Diaries and Mixed: My Life in Black and White. In her modelling life Berry has served many years as the face of internationally famous Revlon cosmetics, and was recently named the face of Versace.. She is featured in Maxim Magazines’s Girls of Maxim gallery.

Being an African American decent sh e has faced several obstacles that has made her identity conscious. Halle Berry has stated that the manner in which people have reacted to her is often the result of ignorance. Her own self-identification has been influenced by her mother. In her own words,"I was raised by my white mother and every day of my life I have always been aware of the fact that I am bi-racial.

However, growing up I was aware that even though my mother was white, I did not look or 'feel' very white myself...Many times my classmates did not believe me when I said my mother was white. I soon grew tired of trying to prove that I was half-black and half-white and learned not to concern myself with what others thought.

I began to relate to the other 'all black kids' at my school more because quite simply...I looked more like them... If people would just learn to look at everyone equally and stop trying to label one another the issue of what we are all made of would be null and void...We are all members of the same race, the human race!"

Glenn Close profileClose was born in Greenwich, Connecticut to Bettine (née Moore) and William Taliaferro Close,[1] a doctor who operated a clinic in the Belgian Congo and served as a personal physician to President Mobutu Sese Seko.[2] Her parents came from upper-class families; her paternal grandfather, Edward Bennett Close, a stockbroker and director of the American Hospital Association,[3] was first married to Post Cereals' heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post, making Glenn Close a relative of screenwriter/director Preston Sturges and actress Dina Merrill.

Close is also a second cousin once removed of Brooke Shields. Shields's great-grandmother Mary Elsie Moore (wife of Don Marino Torlonia, 4th Prince di Civitella-Cesi) was Close's great-aunt, a sister of Close's maternal grandfather, Charles Arthur Moore.

Close attended Choate Rosemary Hall, a private boarding school in Connecticut. Michael Douglas, her co-star in Fatal Attraction, also attended Choate Rosemary Hall. Glenn also attended the College of William and Mary, becoming a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

Close has had a lengthy career as a versatile actress and performer. Close is remembered for her chilling roles as the scheming aristocrat Madame de Merteuil in Dangerous Liaisons and as the psychotic book editor Alex in Fatal Attraction. She has been nominated for 5 Academy Awards, for Best Actress in Dangerous Liaisons and Fatal Attraction and for Best Supporting Actress in The Natural, The Big Chill and The World According to Garp.
