Juhi Chawla, who is in the silver screen for the past twenty years, is the longest serving Miss India in Hindi filmdom. She has shown her acting prowess both in commercial films as also in experimental parallel movies.

Born to Punjabi father D C Chawla and Gujarati mother Mona, Juhi Chawla was an Arts graduate from the Sydhenham College, Mumbai, She was crowned with Miss India title at the age of 17 in 1984. She also won the Best Costume Award in Miss Universe contest the same year.

Juhi Chawla’s debut film Sultanat in 1986 was not a successful one. But her second film, a Kannada movie Premoloka was a super hit. She had to wait till 1988 to get her first big Bolywood film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak to release. In the film she paired with Aamir Khan.

She came out with another hit Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman with Shah Rukh Khan in 1992 and established herself as one of the leading heroines in Bollywood. It was no mean achievement since her rivals were Kajol and Madhuri Dixit.

Juhi Chawla won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke with Aamir Khan in 1993. The year was a successful one as she came out with critically acclaimed Aaina with Jackie Shroff and also in one of her biggest hits Darr.

Of her about 80 films so far, other notables till 1996 include CID, Pratibandh, Eena Meena Deeka, The Gentleman, Loafer and Daraar. In 1997, Juhi Chawla blasted again with Aamir Khan in Ishq, She won the Bollywood Movie Award as the Most Sensational Actress for Duplicate in 1998.

Since 2000 Juhi Chawla appeared in a number of hits including PhirBhi Dil Hai Hindustani, 3 Dweewarein, My Brother Nikhil, Indian Idol, Home Delivery and Paheli. She won Star Screen Award for Best Actress in supporting role in 3 Deewarein in 2004. For her acting in My Brother Nikhil in 2005, some critics are of the opinion that she played her best in her film career. Juhi Chawla is married to industrialist Jai Mehta and has two children.
