In the history of the Hindi or Bollywood Film Industry the contribution and significance of the Kapoor family of Mumbai has been immense. Right from the participation of Prithwiraj Kapoor, his three sons Raj Kapoor, Shammy Kapoor and Shahshi Kapoor followed by the later generations has created a history which is awe inspiring and at the same time earns admiration for their lifelong devotion to the cause of films.

Karisma Kapoor gallery The latest contribution of this Kapoor family towards the Hindi Film Industry is Karisma Kapoor with nickname 'Lolo'. She has already by virtue of her talent has earned the reputation of a powerful and glamorous actress. Besides she is also an Award winning actor and through her performances in many critically and commercially successful movies has mesmerised the Indian audience.

Having born to Randhir Kapoor, a popular actor during the 1970s and 1980s and actress Babita had an inclination, cinsidered as very natural to films from early childhood. Randhir Kapoor happens to be the eldest son of raj kapoor, the once uncrowned king of the Hindi Film Industry.

Karisma Kapoor had her debut in the 1991 movie Prem Qaidi, which though not crashed in the box-office also failed to be commercially succesful. From the period of 1992-1996 most of her multiple releases failed to be commercially successfull at the box office, she without ny doubt had some success with films like Jigar(1992), Anari (1993), Raja Babu (1994), Coolie No. 1 (1995), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996) and Jeet in 1996. the major breakthrough in her career came through her acting in the lead female role in Raja Hindustani against Aamir Khan in 1996.

Through her exuberant and splendid performance she earned the laurels and the film became a major commercial success helping her to bag the first Filamfare Award as the Best Actress. The next year also happened to be a landmark in her career. That year year witnesed her success becoming the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress and also wining the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film, Dil To Pagal Hai starring along with the two superstars of that time, Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit.

Again in the year 2000, she again won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her spectacular performance in the film Fiza, in the central charcater of the film depicting the emotion of an elder sister for brother lost in a mishap, throughout the length and breadth of the film.

In 2001, she achieved critical acclaim for her role in the film Zubeidda for which she garnered the Filmfre Critics Award for Best Performance. Again in 2002 her performance in Shakti was widely appreciated by the film intellectuals and projected her no longer as an actress for mere entertainment but as a powerful actress.

In personal life she is married to industrialist Sanjay Kapur, CEO of Sixt India, but after the bitrh of their daughter there have been reports in the media over their considerable rift. Recently, it is reported that the couple has has subsequently patched-up.
