Angelina Jolie is an American film actress and a Goodwill Ambasador for the UN Refugee Agency. For her astunding acting peformance she has received three She is often cited by popular media as one of the world's most beautiful women and her off-screen life is widely reported. She has received three Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and an Acadeny Award. Since she is an Ambasador her activites get widely reported in the international media.







She was born at Los Angeles, in California to the actor duo Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. From her childhood she had an arttraction to the glamorous Hollywood. However, she nevr took it seriously to pursue this career. In her childhood she has appeared as a child peroforrmer with her father Jon Voight in the film Lookin’ to Get Out in the year 1982. Though her father was an actor but that did not provide her with any substantial help. Rather her career began in earnest a decade later with a low budget film, Cyborg 2 in 1993.

But her first leading role was in Hackers in 1995. Her career prospects began to improve after her performance as Cornelia Wallace in George Wallace in 1997 that earned for her the Golden Globe award and made he nomination in the Emmy. Her acting was highly praised by the international critics leading her to receive the Golden Globe for "Best Miniseries/Motion Picture made for TV". In 2000 Jolie appeared in her first summer bolckbuster Gone in 60 seconds in which she played Sarah "Sway" Wayland, ex-girlfriend of car-thief Nicholas Cage. Her Lara Croft:Tomb Raider in 2001 made her acting abilities widely popular for the first time hailing her as an international superstar.

Apart from her successful career Jolie has pursued an ideal of cntributing to the society. She first became personally aware of worldwide humanitarian crises while in the shooting of Tomb Rider in the poverty-stricken and well mined area of Cambodia In her own words, "I discovered things about what's happening in the world... Cambodia was really eye opening for me."

It was this urge that draaged her to the UNHCR for more information on international trouble spots. For undertaking veral programmes in this regard and getting impressed by her interest and devotion in the subject, UNHCR named her a Goodwill Amabassador August 27, in the year 2002 at the UNHCR Headquarters at Geneva.
